Kazuho Chasen - the most basic style of chasen was handmade in Takayama, Nara—where they've been crafting whisks the traditional way for generations.
The kazuho (数穂) is the classic chasen shape, with about 64 tines. Its straighter, tightly curled tips make it super versatile—perfect for whisking up a light, foamy usucha or a thick, creamy koicha.
Unlike mass-produced whisks, this chasen is entirely handmade using no machines or chemicals. Crafted with immense time and skill, Takayama whisks are known for their fine, flexible tines and meticulous detail—making them not only beautiful but also durable and a joy to use.
Care Instructions:
Rinse with water after use and avoid soap. Gently remove any remaining matcha with your fingers or a cloth, then stand the whisk upright to air dry completely. This helps preserve its shape and prevent mold. Use a kusenaoshi (whisk shaper) to help maintain the curve of the tines.
Note: As each whisk is handmade from natural bamboo, slight variations in appearance and size are to be expected.
